CAPE TOWN - The two men accused of being involved in a mass shooting at a barbershop in Site C, Khayelitsha say they'll be applying for bail at their next court appearance.

Athule Mtsha and Sithisa Masiko appeared at the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Wednesday in connection with the shooting that claimed the lives of four people, including three children.

They face four murder charges, and 11 of attempted murder.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it would oppose bail for the two accused as it believes that the pair might interfere and intimidate witnesses.

It also believes Mtsha and Masiko might run away and undermine the justice system.

Western Cape NPA Spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila, "The state has been requested to provide the defense with the summary of facts on the 24th of June so that the other two parties are able to prepare for bail application."

The court has ordered that pictures of the accused not be published at this stage until an identity parade has been completed.

They are expected back in court at the beginning of July.
