JOHANNESBURG - Action SA president Herman Mashaba will take the stand as a state witness in a corruption case against an engineering company, previously contracted to the City of Joburg.
Mashaba blew the whistle on Setheo Engineering during his time as Joburg Mayor in 2017.
The company’s Brighton Chifamba stands accused of theft, money laundering, corruption and fraud after being wrongfully appointed and paid R126 million to construct a substation in Eldorado Park in 2015 which was never done.
Action SA spokesperson James de Villiers says Mashaba will appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in Ekurhuleni on Wednesday.
"Mashaba uncovered the alleged fraudulent and corrupt behaviour in 2017 during his time as City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor. During that time, he reported the matter to SAPS, as well as escalated the matter to the NPA and Hawks."
