PRETORIA - The Freedom Front (FF) Plus says its working agreement with the African National Congress (ANC) won’t stop it from holding the governing party accountable on matters like Phala Phala.

While the FF Plus is still mulling over joining the ANC’s Government of National Unity (GNU), it did, however, enter into a deal with the ANC in the Northern Cape.

The deal saw the FF Plus vote for the ANC’s Zamani Saul as Northern Cape Premier, with the ANC vowing to respect the self-determination of communities like Orania.

The FF Plus was part of the many invited guests at the Union Buildings in Pretoria where the ANC leader, Cyril Ramaphosa was set to be inaugurated for a second term as state president.

The party said unlike the Democratic Alliance (DA), it plans on holding the ANC accountable whether it joins the GNU or not.

Recently, DA federal leader, Helen Zille, told 702 that the DA would not vote for the impeachment of Ramaphosa over the Phala Phala matter unless new evidence was brought forward.

However, FF Plus leader Pieter Groenewald said if the Section 89 panel report was brought back into Parliament, his caucus would vote for the initiation of impeachment proceedings against Ramaphosa.

"I think the DA has a problem because they are part of the executive and that makes it difficult to play the role of an official opposition. Therefore the Freedom Front Plus, we are not part of the executive."

Groenewald added that if the FF Plus did join the GNU, it wouldn’t be looking for positions in the Cabinet.
