But it hasn’t been an easy path to power this time around.

It’s been an unprecedented road for Cyril Ramaphosa's African National Congress.

Never before has the party needed the help of the main opposition to install its president after a bruising battle at the ballot box.

Most opposition parties are expected to attend Wednesday’s ceremony.

But one noticeable absence will again be former President Jacob Zuma's MK Party, just like their stay-away in Parliament last week.

Wednesday's inauguration is in keeping with the country's 30 years of democracy celebrations and will contain all the military hallmarks of such an event, including a gun salute and a flyover.

Despite it being an ordinary working day, hundreds are expected to gather to witness the auspicious occasion.
