JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) says they are dealing with the issue of recently appointed Member of Parliament (MP) Renaldo Gouws internally.
Gouws has been trending on social media after a video he posted 16 years ago resurfaced and is being labelled as racist.
A petition started on Monday, calling on Parliament to revoke his membership has gained almost 40,000 signatures.
In 2009, Gouws, a former Nelson Mandela Bay ward councillor, posted a video on YouTube where he went on a radical rant about his views on reverse apartheid and how he believes white South Africans are being discriminated against.

According to Gouws, the video was posted in response to the then president, Jacob Zuma and the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League leader, Julius Malema, and the controversial “kill the boer” chant.
Responding on X, Gouws said he previously addressed the sentiments expressed in the video on several occasions, most recently in 2016 and 2020.
DA spokesperson Solly Malatsi told Eyewitness News that they are dealing with the matter against gouws internally and that he has shown remorse.
Eyewitness News understands the petition could be presented to the committee of petitions and undertakings in parliament once established.
