CAPE TOWN - Capetonians are being urged to donate to the animal welfare sector.

The metro said that organisations that looked after homeless pets were under pressure due to a lack of funding.

The municipality said that residents could also help by adopting the animals.

The city's MMC for Safety and Security, JP Smith: "The pressure on our animal welfare sector is relentless and they are really doing incredible work inspite of the odds against them. The city privides funding for a number of funding initiatives to keep Cape Town's pet population safe."
