CAPE TOWN - Human rights advocacy group, Amnesty International, is calling on the government of national unity to prioritise critical issues affecting young people.
The group made the calls on the annual commemoration of Youth Day on Sunday.
The group said it was unthinkable that 30 years into democracy, the government had failed to address inequality, access to education, and the high rate of unemployment among the youth.
Amnesty International South Africa coordinator, Rejoice Motaung:
"Since the youth represent the future of our nation, it is imperative to address these issues with dedicated focus. It is imperative that the incoming government champions the rights of youth people and create an environment where they can thrive. As we honour the courage of the youth of 1976, let us also commit to building a South Africa where the rights and aspirations of today's youth are fully realised."
