JOHANNESBURG - 60-year-old controversial former South African Airways (SAA) board chair Dudu Myeni has died.
Myeni a polarising figure was facing corruption charges at the time of her passing.
This follows her arrest in September last year.
The matter linked to claims of corruption at BOSASA was postponed due to ill-health.
Over the years it's been claimed that she enjoyed some protection due to proximity to former president Jacob Zuma.
Myeni who had been declared a delinquent director bows out with a cloud hanging over her head.
She was facing criminal charges linked to Bosasa corruption.
But before capturing the media spotlight over some of her decisions at SAA she had served in several boards including the South African Association of Water Utilities, the Mhlathuze Water Board and has been a director of trade and investment in KwaZulu-Natal.
Myeni also had a consulting firm which in the late 1990s facilitated social development programmes on behalf of government and corporations in and around Richards Bay.
In 2020 she was declared a delinquent director and barred from holding any directorship for life.
Myeni will also always be remembered for her appearance before the Zondo Commission.
"I feel, I am before you chair before you chair, with some people that have come there, who are aggrieved, who have been made to say something about anyone associated with Jacob Zuma."
In 2015 she joined the Jacob Zuma Foundation which she served until her passing this week.
