CAPE TOWN - Newly-elected national police board chairperson Francina Lukas has called on the youth to break the cycle of alcohol and drugs.
Lukas was speaking at a Youth Day celebration event in Century City in Cape Town on Sunday.
Lukas who is also the current Western Cape Community Policing Forum (CPF) chair, said the youth must take courage and pride from the youth of 1976.
She called on the youth to refrain from engaging in criminal activities and strive to be better citizens.
Acknowledging her new position, Lukas said she would be able to play a significant role between the national police structures and communities to strengthen the fight against crime.
She said she hoped her new role would also inspire young women to equally benefit from opportunities previously dominated by men.
