KZN Legislature yet to elect new speaker for 7th administration

DURBAN - the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Legislature is yet to elect a new speaker for the 7th administration.
Two African National Congress (ANC) and uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party legislature members were nominated for the post.
However, parties have yet to vote through a secret ballot.
The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) backed up by the Democratic Alliance (DA) has nominated the ANC’s Nontembeko Boyce for the speaker position.
While the MK Party nominated its own Mervyn Dicks - a former member of Parliament under the ANC.
However, proceedings were adjourned for the preparation of the ballots.

“I will now suspend the election for a period sufficient to prepare for the voting, once the preparations are concluding the bells will be rung for five minutes, and members are requested to respond promptly to the house when the bells are rung. The doors will then be locked, and the voting will continue.”
As soon as the bells go off, voting will be underway for the first position, which will be followed by that of speaker and then premier.
