CAPE TOWN - The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) will lead a team of political parties seeking a meeting with the African National Congress (ANC), complaining that they have been excluded from meaningful and comprehensive discussions about the government of national unity.

This is despite red berets declaring that it is not interested in joining the ANC's proposed government of national unity.

The EFF, Al Jama-ah, the UDM, the UAT, ATM and the PAC have written to ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, asking for a meeting on Friday morning ahead of the first sitting of the seventh Parliament.

The six parties, which call themselves the Progressive Caucus, have requested an urgent meeting with the ANC.

This follows their own gathering on Thursday night, where they raised concerns over President Cyril Ramaphosa's commitment to engage with all parties.

They said that talks had been meaningless and fragmented, claiming this hadn’t yielded any substantive outcomes.

The parties said they had a right to form an integral part of the discussions which will develop a government of national unity and in ensuring the creation of an effective Parliament.

The Progressive Caucus will also hold a media briefing at 9am on Friday morning.
