CAPE TOWN - Quantum Foods says investigations into an explosion that took place at one of its premises in Malmesbury, killing one person and severely injuring two other workers, are still underway.
In a statement, the company said that the cause of the explosion was still under investigation.
The company said it was working with relevant authorities to find the cause and impact of the blast, and pledged to support affected workers and their families.
Meanwhile, trade union COSATU said that law enforcement agencies needed to do a thorough investigation to rule out negligence.
COSATU provincial secretary, Malvern de Bruyn: "We will be engaging the Department of Employment and Labour and the Compensation Fund for Occupational Injuries and Diseases to ensure justice is done and the relief due to the workers and family of the deceased is expedited as required by law. Workers sell their labour and not their lives - they deserve better."
