PRETORIA - Another trial-within-a-trial is on the cards in the case of a Soshanguve couple accused of murder and insurance fraud.
Sibusiso and his wife Lerato Mahlangu allegedly killed her ex, burnt his body and used his remains to claim from insurance.
Their alleged scheme unravelled when police found Sibusiso, who was presumed dead, behind the wheel of a suspected stolen vehicle in Hammanskraal, just over a year later.
the trial got underway last week and has already been plunged into two trials-within-a-trial and now a third looms.
Sibusiso Mahlangu's counsel, Nthabiseng Serabele, indicated on Thursday that they are objecting to evidence around a pointing out he did after he was arrested which the state wants to lead next.
Serabele says her client maintains it was done freely and voluntarily, that he was intimidated and that his conditional rights were not explained to him.
The previous trials-within-a-trial were based on objections made on similar grounds to evidence around statements Mahlangu made to police after his arrest.
They were both unsuccessful.
Proceedings have now wrapped up for the day and the latest trial-within-a-trial is expected to get underway on Friday.
