CAPE TOWN - Western Cape Community Safety MEC Reagen Allen has welcomed the arrest of two suspects in connection with a mass murder in Khayelitsha.

Three children and a 30-year-old man were killed when gunmen opened fire at a barbershop in Site C on Saturday.

Seven other people were seriously injured in the attack.

Police on Tuesday confirmed they made a breakthrough in their investigation with the arrest of two men in their twenties.

The pair is expected to make a first appearance in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Police said that with the investigation unfolding, the possibility of more arrests and further charges being pursued could not be ruled out.

Allen has appealed to anyone who may have information about the attack to come forward.

"This is a significant breakthrough. These suspects must now come clean so that we can have full insight into this heinous crime and so that whoever else might be involved can also face the consequences. These, and any other crime, will never be tolerated and welcomed in any of our communities."
