JOHANNESBURG - The Pretoria High Court will on Wednesday morning hear from a senior official of the Kgosi Mampuru C-Max Prison, where some of the men accused of murdering Senzo Meyiwa are being detained.

On Tuesday, the lawyer for Mthobisi Mncube told the court that he was unable to take a shower since Thursday because there was no warm water at the facility.

Mncube is one of five men who are accused of shooting the Bafana Bafana captain at the home of his then-girlfriend, singer Kelly Khumalo, almost a decade ago.

Advocate Charles Mnisi on Tuesday opened proceedings by informing the court of the conditions that his client, Mncube, had complained about.

He told the court that since the start of winter, the Kgosi Mampuru C-Max Prison had only had cold water available for inmates to shower and he feared that he may catch a cold.

This was corroborated by the fifth accused, Fisokuhle Ntuli, who is also being detained at the same prison.

The State agreed to arrange for a senior official from the prison to come to court and explain the conditions.

At the same time, proceedings will be off to a late start on Wednesday at 11, as Mncube has requested to see a doctor for pain he is feeling in his arm, something he says was triggered by the cold conditions in his prison cell.
