JOHANNESBURG - City Power said that the timeframe for relaxing the newly-implemented load reduction measures was up to residents.

The utility implemented load reduction because of critical electricity consumption levels.

Affected residents could be without power for as much as two-and-a-half hours a day.

City Power's Sipho Gamede urged consumers to use electricity sparingly.

"It is up to the public. We are not sure yet, so it will depend. Once our network is stable and we are able to reduce the usage, we may have to reconsider the plan."
