JOHANNESBURG - The third accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has asked the Pretoria High Court to intervene in relation to the conditions of his imprisonment.

The lawyer for Mthobisi Mncube addressed the court on Tuesday on the lack of warm water at the Kgosi Mampuru C Max Prison making it difficult for him to take a shower.

Mncube and 4 others are standing trial for the football star’s murder almost a decade after his death.

Advocate Charles Mnisi has addressed the Pretoria High Court on his client, Mncube’s grievances at the prison where he is being detained.

Mncube said that since the start of winter, the facility has only had cold water available for inmates to shower and he fears that he may catch a cold.

He said that he has not been showering since temperatures dropped this week.

Mncube also complained about being kept in solitary confinement in what Mnisi has called a cubicle where he is only allowed two phone calls a month.

The fifth accused Fisokuhle Ntuli has corroborated Mnube’s complaint on the lack of warm water at the facility.

The court agreed to call a senior prison official to address these concerns.
