Hawks Captain Edward du Plessis, who investigated the case against Modack and his 14 co-accused, has already provided a mountain of evidence to implicate Modack in a slew of crimes, including murder, money laundering and racketeering.

CAPE TOWN - Hawks Captain Edward du Plessis is set to continue providing evidence in the high-profile trial against alleged underworld crime boss, Nafiz Modack, and his co-accused on Tuesday.

Du Plessis, who investigated the case against Modack and his 14 co-accused, has already provided a mountain of evidence to implicate Modack in a slew of crimes, including murder, money laundering and racketeering.

Evidence presented in court on Monday put a spotlight on Empire Investment Cars, a company Modack allegedly used to launder money and finance various crimes.

Du Plessis brought to light financial records that show that Modack's brother, Yaseen Modack, sold Empire Investment Cars to another co-accused in the matter, Adiel Mukudam, in May 2019.

Bank statements over a five-month period show monthly salary payments of R100,000 were made to the company's bank account in Mukudam's name.

Du Plessis said that the bank card linked to the company's account was later found on the driver's seat of the car during Modack's arrest in April 2021.

The trial continues on Tuesday.
