Gauteng Judge President Dunstan Mlambo is set to preside over the swearing-in of legislature members.
The ANC in Gauteng recorded a significant decline in its electoral support, dropping from 50% in 2019 to 36% following the 2024 general elections.
The party has been engaged in talks with other political organisations, charting a coalition structure to govern the province.
While parties have kept mum about what the Gauteng government will possibly look like under a coalition arrangement, the ANC’s top brass began the process of selecting premier candidates on Monday.
The legislature’s first sitting will see the election of a premier, a Speaker, committee chairpersons, and delegate representatives to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).
The ANC’s proposal for a government of national unity will see several parties forming part of the provincial executive.
