The community of Site C said the youngest of the victims was only four years old.

This is the second mass shooting in the township within the last two months, claiming the lives of nine people.

The Western Cape MEC for Community Safety and Police Oversight, Reagan Allen, called on investigating officers not to rest until the perpetrators were found.

"This murderous incident is horrific and angers me deeply, particularly with the number of young people senselessly murdered and wounded. These heartless criminals have absolutely no regard for life. We need to ensure that they are swiftly arrested so that a conviction can follow. Life should never be this cheap."

Provincial police spokesperson, Andre Traut: "Detectives attached to the provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit are investigating the circumstances of a multiple murder in Khayelitsha in a bid to get to the bottom of the incident and apprehend those responsible. The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be apprehended."

Meanwhile, a peace march was planned in Leonsdale in Elsies River over the weekend, following a recent spate of suspected gang shootings which have left several people dead or wounded.
