JOHANNESBURG - Over 200 Sibanye-Stillwater miners who embarked on a sit-in at one of the mine's Rustenburg shafts this week have been issued with dismissal notices.
The miners, affiliated to the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU), demonstrated underground for access to dividends from the employee share ownership scheme.

The mine and unions embarked on efforts to convince the striking mineworkers to resurface.
The miners were given three ultimatums to allow for engagements on the matter. However, the workers refused and remained underground until Wednesday.
Sibanye-Stillwater spokesperson James Wellsted said the unions representing the workers were not in support of the protest.
"They have been issued with dismissal notices, but they obviously have the right to appeal their dismissals, so I am sure that will happen."
