CAPE TOWN - Operations at Cape Town International Airport are back to normal on Friday morning, following a security threat that saw the police's bomb squad being deployed to the airport on Thursday evening.
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) said the officers responded after the crew of a departing flight was alerted to a possible security threat aboard an aircraft due to depart for O.R. Tambo International Airport.
ACSA said two suspects were apprehended.
Airport management assured passengers that operations at Cape Town International Airport were not being impacted by the incident, and there are no further risks.
ACSA says the reported security threat was an isolated incident triggered by comments made by two passengers on board the plane.
Passengers and crew members safely disembarked before teams conducted a thorough sweep of the aircraft.
The passengers were rebooked onto another flight, and later arrived at their destination.
Police have since declared the plane safe.
