JOHANNESBURG - The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) members are picketing outside the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), demanding the entity reevaluate its funding to SA Steel Mills.
The union said since last month, workers had been on strike over the dismissals of 162 of their colleagues who lost their jobs after going on a protected strike.
They are also demanding that shop stewards be recognised and granted full rights to defend workers.
NUMSA spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola was speaking outside the IDC offices in Sandton a short while ago.
"The reason our members have come all the way to the Industrial Development Corporation is because... the IDC... must know what SA Steel Mills has been up to."
