JOHANNESBURG - Sports and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa appeared at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Palm Ridge, facing corruption charges amounting to nearly R1.7 million.
He appeared alongside former EOH boss, Jehan Mackay, whose company allegedly scored R400 million in government contracts through his relationship with the minister.
It’s alleged that Kodwa influenced the awarding of the contracts during his time as African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson and member of the party’s national executive committee (NEC).
Presiding judge Sheron Solo Rantao ruled that Kodwa and Mackay’s offences fall under schedule five, meaning the accused must formally apply for bail.
"As the applicants, you have a duty to disclose a record of your previous convictions, a record of your pending cases where you’re released on bail, any protection orders granted by the court - failure to disclose that information, you’ll be fined R2,000 or two years imprisonment."
