JOHANNESBURG - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it was confident of a guilty verdict in the corruption case of former Parliament Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
Mapisa-Nqakula is charged with 12 counts of corruption and one of money laundering.
The charges relate to her time as defence minister, when she allegedly received and solicited about R4.5 million in kickbacks from a defence contractor.
Mapisa-Nqakula made her second appearance at the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Her legal team has requested sections B and C of the police docket against their client.
Section A of the police docket contains witness statements and documentary evidence, while sections B and C deal with technical aspects of the case, like internal police reports and investigation diaries
The NPA's Investigative Directorate (ID) spokesperson, Henry Mathomane, said that the State did everything in its evidence gathering.
"We don't enroll a matter before court if we are not convinced the evidence can stand the test of time in a trial court, so we are confident but as we know, the final decision will be that of a judge."
The matter has been postponed to 9 July for the serving of an indictment and a date for Mapisa-Nqakula's first appearance at a High Court.
