JOHANNESBURG - More than 200 workers embarked on a sit-in at Sibanye-Stillwater's Kwezi shaft in Rustenburg, in the North West, over the employee share ownership scheme.
According to reports, operations at the mine were disrupted from Monday by striking Kroondal employees, who allegedly did not receive the annual payment.
However, the mine's management said in a statement that the protesting employees did not yet qualify for the scheme.
It further said that last year's wage agreement between NUM and AMCU made provision for talks on the likelihood of including the employees after a pending acquisition of the mine.
The company said that Kroondal's management was engaging with employees and their union representatives regarding the details of the proposed scheme.
