JOHANNESBURG - Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane is set to meet with the provincial Cooperative Governance (COGTA) Department on Wednesday to discuss interventions that will address the devastation caused by inclement weather.

At least 10 deaths have been recorded following the disaster, with seven victims from the Nelson Mandela Bay metro.

Mabuyane conceded that the province was disaster-prone.

He said that Wednesday's meeting with all the relevant MECs from various departments, including COGTA and Human Settlements among others, would ensure that all victims were properly assisted.

The evacuation and relocation of people living in low-lying areas and along river banks is continuing as more rain is predicted in the province.

Mabuyane has set aside suggestions that relocated persons would not be properly catered for, adding that warehouses stocked with blankets, food and supplies had been set up to provide support for those affected.
