DURBAN - The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government said they expect the death toll to rise following Monday's devestating storms.
At least 11 people were killed as storms wreaked havoc in the province.
The township of Magwaveni was left in ruins following a tornado which swept through the region.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube said that while 11 people had been confirmed dead following Monday's storms, this number is expected to rise.
"We are expecting the numbers to still change. We have about 52 that were treated last night and released. We have about 14 who were taken to hospital and have been hospitalised for treatment in and around eThekwini."
This is not the first time the region has experienced a tornado.
In 2019 the area of Mpolweni, west of Durban, was battered by a tornado.
In 2021, more than 400 people were killed and 40,000 displaced following floods in the province.
