At the weekend, heavy rains caused flooding that wreaked havoc across parts of the province damaging roads and infrastructure.
The disaster claimed at least 10 lives.
Residents have been receiving humanitarian aid from national government and non-profit organisations as they continue to pick up the pieces from the deadly storms.
Human Settlements Minister, Mmamoloko Kubayi, and COGTA Minister, Thembi Nkadimeng, met with the Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane, before conducting a door-to-door visits to some of the affected homes in Kariega.
A very stern and upset Nkadimeng criticised the provincial COGTA Department,
"We were not agile enough in the standard of response rate as mandated within a 72-hour period."
Nkadimeng said during her meeting, she cracked the whip on municipal officials and made a request for the president to visit the province.
