CAPE TOWN - A taxi driver has been swept away after apparently jumping into a river along the N2.
Traffic officer's patrolling the highway attempted to stop the driver on Tuesday but he fled and jumped into the water in an attempt to evade arrest.
The City of Cape Town's JP Smith said that with a fast flowing current bolstered by heavy rainfall, additional resources were requested.
Fire and Rescue officials arrived on scene and the search area was expanded but there has been no sign of the man.
The minibus taxi was impounded, with a number of outstanding fines registered against it and the matter was reported to police.
Smith said that the registered owner of the vehicle was requested to meet with police in order to trace and track the identity of the driver.
