While Cape Town might steal the limelight for its exquisite mountains and beaches, it looks like Johannesburg is for all the foodies.
Time Out Magazine has ranked the City of Gold as the second-best city in the world to eat out.
The magazine compiled a list of 20 cities that every foodie should visit.
Locals were quizzed on their city’s must-visit restaurants, must-eat dishes and beat-value bites.
They were also asked to rate their city’s food scene on quality and affordability.
“To really know a city is to eat its food. But what makes a great food city? It isn’t its number of plaudits and Michelin stars, but something a bit more simple: options. Good quality meals at reasonable prices,” says the magazine.
These were the top 20 cities and their must-eat dishes:

- Johannesburg, South Africa – Kota
