MIDRAND - The African National Congress (ANC) has attributed its poor performance in the 2024 general elections to the emergence of the MK Party, low voter turnout and the media.
After 30 years of an ANC-led government, the party has lost its majority in Parliament, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Northern Cape.

Reacting to the electoral decline on Sunday, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula suggested that there was a concerted effort to smear the party.
"We are stating the facts. As we got into this election, everyone wanted us down, including the media. The media did its part but we can't blame you, but you did. I mean, the notion of change began to take a different direction, in the queues and everywhere else. It happened but we stood our ground and we fought very hard."
