JOHANNESBURG - The big story of the day is still the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s spectacular performance, pretty much emerging as the wonderkid of the political parties.
In comparison to how the MK party has performed, the African National Congress (ANC) missed more or less all the targets it set for itself for these elections, losing their majority status in a few provinces.

A week before these watershed elections, ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa’s line of march to the rank and file was to secure 70% and above for all provinces. They only managed to do this in Limpopo.
The MK party took the ANC to the cleaners in KwaZulu-Natal, with the ANC even failing to secure the second spot in that province.
As of the time of publication, 98.84% of voting districts had been completed.
On the national ballot, the ANC is at 40% in line with several polls, the Democratic Alliance (DA) retains its position as the official opposition with 21%, and the MK party comes in at 14%.
Results are expected to be declared tomorrow - if the objections are resolved.
