Almost 1.5 million people registered to vote in Free State.

Although officials could not confirm the voter turnout due to technical glitches, votes from 1,113 voting stations have been captured, while 473 stations are still being processed.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa's (IEC) Mmabatho Rasengane explained the process: “For the results to be verified, there is an audit that needs to be done."

“So, auditors need to confirm what has been captured is exactly what’s on the result slips so that they can be declared. That is why we are still coming in slowly.”

In the province, the African National Congress (ANC) is leading with a high number of votes, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA), and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
