DURBAN - While the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party continues to surge ahead with a substantial number of votes over its opposition in KwaZulu-Natal, there’s still a way to go before results are concluded.
Only 13 of the 43 municipalities in the province have been captured and audited, meaning there remains a chance for the African National Congress (ANC) and Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) to catch up somewhat.

During a media briefing on Friday afternoon, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) revealed that it still had a way to go to finalise the results in KZN, the province with the largest number of voting stations in the country.
IEC KZN Chief Electoral Officer Ntombifuthi Masinga: “At the moment, we have a total of 13 municipalities that have their results finalised and audited. The difference of what you are seeing here and what we are seeing on our screens is that you are seeing results that have been audited, and we are seeing results that have been captured.”
But while the results of almost 30 municipalities still need to be audited, the MK Party continues to race away from all competition, almost as it sits just shy of hitting the one million mark of votes in the province.
