JOHANNESBURG - IEC CEO, Sy Mamabolo, said that its teams were in the process of auditing and capturing election results onto its systems.
Mamabolo has confirmed that polling stations across the country have completed the vote counting process.
He was speaking during an update session at the national results operations centre in Midrand on Friday.
The IEC said that if all went well, final results for this election would be announced over the weekend.
Currently, nearly 70% of voting districts have been captured, most of which are from rural and township areas across the country.
The Northern Cape is the only province where all votes have been captured and released to the public, with the auditing process reaching its final stages in the Free State, Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga.
Mamabolo said that all result slips were now at the commission’s offices.
"We don't have a tally of spoilt votes at this stage because the results are still being captured. At the time we have reached 100%, we should be able to give you an authoritative account."
Meanwhile, the ANC is still leading the national ballot with over 4 million votes with the DA trailing behind.
