Free State captures over 80% of vote cast, over 600k votes confirmed so far

The ANC continues to lead with just over 53%, followed by the DA at 21.54%, and the EFF in third place at 13.5%.

BLOEMFONTEIN - The Free State has captured over 80% of the vote cast, with 612,795 votes confirmed for the province so far.

The African National Congress (ANC) continues to lead with just over 53%, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) at 21.54%, and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in third place at 13.5%.

Vote counting was completed on Thursday in the province, but the votes counted are still being verified.

IEC officials said this process included auditing, where the number of votes had to be re-checked and verified again before appearing on the results board.

The ANC in the province is leading with 322,423 votes, the DA with 132,538, and the EFF with 80,765.

The smaller parties include the Freedom Front (FF) Plus with over 20,022 votes, the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party with 12,707, and the African Congress for Transformation (ACT) with 10,985.
