JOHANNESBURG - With 57% of the voting districts having been tallied, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), which is yet to breach the 1 million ballot mark, said that hope was not lost.
Its treasurer-general, Omphile Maotwe, said there was no need to panic, as the bigger voting stations were yet to be finalised.
The red berets are the country’s third-largest political party.

They have been able to steadily grow support over the years. However, they now find themselves trailing behind former President Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, which is now a couple of thousand votes from the one million vote mark.
Maotwe, suggesting that technical glitches in the past have worked in the African National Congress (ANC)’s favour, also expressed some frustration with the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC)’s results board crashing for close to two hours earlier.
"We are cautioning the IEC to say we will never accept that. Please don’t do this to the people. Run an election that all of us will be able to say the elections were free and fair. We are cautioning the IEC."
