BLOEMFONTEIN - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State said that it was happy to maintain the official opposition but with a few more votes this time.
The party is currently sitting at about 21% of the vote in the province, a slight increase from the 2019 polls.
However, this may change as the capturing of votes continues. Currently, about 90% of votes have been captured.
Since the counting and capturing started on Thursday, most of the votes have gone to the ANC, the DA and EFF.
The DA has so far recorded a four percent increase in these polls.
The party’s Paul Kotze said that they had such high expectations.
"We were never in doubt that we would not still keep our official opposition, we’ve definitely grown in the province."
Kotze said that they were hoping for more as numbers keep changing on the results board.
"We’ll just now see how many seats this gives us and how much influence that does give us."
IEC officials in the Free State say that the province is expected to complete vote capturing by Friday night.
