ANC's Mokonyane says MK Party's growth in KZN surprising
The MK Party is making inroads in the province leading the pack with more than 700 000 votes and the ANC trailing behind it with 300 000.

JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) deputy secretary-general, Nomvula Mokonyane, said that the growth of former President Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) in KwaZulu-Natal was surprising.
Mokonyane was speaking to journalists at the national results operation centre in Midrand on Friday afternoon.
The MK Party is making inroads in the province, leading the pack with more than 700,000 votes and the ANC trailing behind it with 300,000.

So far, the IEC has captured results from over 65% of voting districts across the country.
A number of ANC NEC members are anxiously staring at the big screen as election results trickle in on Friday afternoon.
Zuma’s MK Party has successfully established itself as one of the ANC’s biggest challenges yet in this election.
Mokonyane admitted that the party had been pushed into a corner by its former president’s newly registered political party.
"We said it when we campaigned, it is unfortunate that we are contesting against an organiser and president of the ANC. What has come out is exactly what we were concerned about."
Meanwhile, ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba has arrived at the national results operation centre after being missing in action on Thursday.
He said that while the party wasn't entirely satisfied with the current results, he believes their numbers will increase significantly as the counting process continues.
