Bhanga was Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor until 2021 before leaving the DA in 2023, after falling out with party leadership.
“Here I’m casting this vote to say thank you to the African National Congress for defending the defenceless people of the world and the people in Palestine. Today [Wednesday] I’ll be casting this in memory of those kids who are being brutally killed there.”
Meanwhile, the metros’ current mayor, Gary van Niekerk of the National Alliance (NA), said he also voted for the ANC on two of his ballots after his party failed to meet the requirements to contest elections.
“The next party then, you only get three ballots, so my other votes will be going to the ANC.”
