Provincial police commissioner, Semakaleng Manamela, acknowledged that there were some disruptions and squabbles, however, she said that police were quick to react and resolve them.

"The law enforcement agencies who have been on the ground the whole week and throughout the night, ensuring that IEC does their work effectively and efficiently, thank you all for your time."

Meanwhile, following reports of attempts to tamper with ballot boxes at two different voting stations in Mpumalanga, the African National Congress (ANC)'s national chairperson, Gwede Mantashe, said that such issues needed to have been dealt with by party agents during the counting process.

"I think they are being malicious, if you are serious you put your complaint right as you are a part of counting. If you don't do that, we are not going to play those games, we are going to watch the results as the come and actually acknowledge them."

Mantashe was perusing the IEC's national results operation centre as votes continue trickling in.
