IEC reveals voter turnout for 2024 elections just shy of 60%
The commission said the majority of the 27.7 million registered South Africans showed up in their numbers to mark their ballots on Wednesday.

JOHANNESBURG - The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) says based on their latest figures, the voter turnout for the 7th democratic elections stands at 58.69%.
The commission held a briefing on Thursday evening, updating the media on its progress so far.
They said the majority of the 27.7 million registered South Africans showed up in their numbers to mark their ballots on Wednesday.

The commission said more than 50% of the results had been captured and logged into the system.
The commission’s General Manager, Granville Abrahams: "We have 55.65% of the results captured and in the system. The reason we do not see all of them on the board is because of the fact that our focus is accuracy."
As counting continues, Abrahams said smaller municipalities had concluded their process.
He also highlighted that the figures were set to change as bigger stations submitted their tallies.
"Based on the 55.65% capture we have on the system, not on the board, we are currently sitting on that number of votes at 58.69% voter turnout. So, we're hovering just below 60% with the bigger [voting] stations to come in."
