JOHANNESBURG - The Freedom Front (FF) Plus says it’s concerned about disputes holding up the tallying of the election results.

Its head of elections, Wouter Wessels, told Eyewitness News that several of its party agents are still locked up at polling stations due to reconciliation not matching up and a refusal to count some special votes that were not placed in envelopes.

The FF Plus, which was one of the best performers in the 2019 elections, believes it is well on its way to increasing support in the 2024 polls.

It is currently sitting at 13,379 votes on the national ballot, with 572,169 valid ones having been counted by around 8 am.

Wessels said his party was worried that some voters would be left behind.

“There are disputes. There are some polling stations across the country where special votes weren't placed in envelopes, and now they are refusing to count those special votes, so people are being disenfranchised.”
