The community made headlines in 2016 over demarcation issues and poor service delivery, which saw several schools in the village being torched.

Community members are lined up at their voting station at the Vuwani municipal building, joyfully engaging in conversations about Wednesday’s occasion.

However, Fhulufhelo Ramadzhamba, an unemployed 30-year-old, has used this as an opportunity to sell coffee and cookies to people who woke up early to cast their votes.

“I’m going to vote for Ramaphosa after selling these cookies. I want him to have a chance to change our lives.”

An elderly resident, Joseph Mabulu, said he hopes his vote will bring a solution to the unemployment crisis.

“Unemployment is very important. As we are looking around, there are a lot of young people who are not working. But I hope the government we are electing now is going to do something so that our youth gets employment.”

Meanwhile, as voters line up to mark their ballots, there’s been little sight of young people at the voting station.
