CAPE TOWN - Voting in the suburb of Hornlee in Knysna got off to a slow start on election day.

Knysna is considered a top tourist destination for both local and overseas visitors.

However, in the past year, the town has been plagued by service delivery challenges, including water scarcity and poor waste removal management.

Hornlee is one of the communities grappling with persistent water challenges, among other issues.

In February this year, residents from here and surrounding communities took their service delivery grievances to the doorstep of the Knysna local municipality.

This municipality is led by a coalition government of the African National Congress (ANC), Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and Plaaslike Besorgde Inwoners (PBI).

The Democratic Alliance (DA) blames the coalition government for all the municipality’s woes.

The Western Cape Environmental Affairs Department has opened a case against the municipality for its failure to adequately respond and implement plans to address the ongoing solid waste crisis in the town.
