Mbeki, Motlanthe cast votes in Killarney, highlight importance of safeguarding SA's democracy
Both former presidents highlighted the importance of all registered citizens voting in these elections in safeguarding the country’s democracy.

KILLARNEY - Former heads of state, Kgalema Motlanthe and Thabo Mbeki, cast their votes in Killarney on Wednesday morning.
Both former presidents highlighted the importance of all registered citizens voting in these elections in safeguarding the country’s democracy.
There was a lot of fanfare as Motlanthe and Mbeki arrived to cast their ballots an hour apart.

An otherwise placid voting station came alive as dozens of cameras were whipped out to catch a glimpse of the former presidents.
Both men shared the same message on the need to vote and build on the country’s hard-won democracy.

Motlanthe did concede that not all the country's problems would be solved at once and Mbeki said that these elections were vital for the country’s future and charting the path forward for years to come.
