South Africans cast their ballots on election day
JOHANNESBURG - Government has urged all 27.7 million registered voters to heed the call to head out in their numbers and vote in the general elections.
Tens of thousands of South Africans have already cast their vote, in the country’s seventh national election.
GCIS director, Nomonde Mnukwa, commended voters for their patience as they waited in long lines to cast their ballot.
She also urged voters to take extra precautionary measures, including the wearing of masks, hand washing with an alcohol-based sanitiser to protect themselves as the country is currently experiencing the annual flu season.
For people who need temporary IDs, the Home Affairs offices will remain open until 9pm to assist citizens with the necessary documents for voting.
