CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has cast his vote at the Edgemead Primary School.

Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis had no intention of skipping the queue on Wednesday.

Arriving shortly after 10.30am, with his wife, they took their spots at the back of a snaking line.

This voting station opened 30 minutes late due to an issue with one of the IEC's devices and Hill-Lewis said that he’d been made aware of several glitches.

"We've unfortunately had reports from about 15 voting stations already across the city this morning of IEC machines being offline or not working and that's causing very, very long queues and long delays as the voting process slows down to a crawl and I really want to encourage residents to please stay in the queues, don't waste your opportunity to vote by going home or if for some reason you have to go home, please remember to come back before 9pm this evening."

The mayor encouraged all South Africans to go out and make their mark on Wednesday.
