JOHANNESBURG - Police in Mpumalanga are still investigating two incidents in the province where IEC officials were accosted by a group of people.
It's alleged that unknown people demanded that IEC staff hand over ballot boxes in separate incidents on Monday, after day one of special voting wrapped up.
Mpumalanga IEC spokesperson, Thanduxolo Chembeni, has assured voters that the integrity of the votes had not been jeopardised.
"We reconciled the number of envelopes with the list of voters we visited at home and those who came to the voting station. The reconciliation went well because all numbers were balancing, so nothing disappeared in terms of the votes."
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Donald Mdhluli, confirmed that they were probing the transgression.
"After opening [a case], we liaise with the National Prosecuting Authority, so the matter is still with them. There are no arrests yet."
